How Fear Turned a Surplus into Scarcity
Listen to the PlanetMoney podcast How Fear Turned a Surplus into Scarcity. Create a 5 column table. In the first column, record each event that would impact either the demand or supply of rice in the world market. In the second column, indicate which curve is effected (Demand or Supply). In the third column, indicate whether the curve shifts to the left or to the right. In the fourth column, indicate what happens to price. In the fifth column, indicate what happens to quantity.
Create a market graph of the demand and supply of rice in the world. Use a blank sheet of printer paper and draw the graph to occupy the entire page. Color code each shift from the table you already created and show graphically the net effect of each event discussed in the podcast.
