Overview of Project
The project associated with our 2015 trip to China has two primary goals: (1) to provide background information about the culture and economy of China before we visit and (2) to provide a platform by which to share the information you learned with friends, family, classmates and our Wilbur Cross community.
When we return from China, we will have approximately 1.5 months to prepare a presentation for the school and community. About 25% of the research will occur prior to the trip, while another 25% will take place after AP exams are over. The remaining 50% will occur firsthand as we travel around and learn about China. While we will obviously want to talk about the culture and history of China, our focus will primarily be on the Chinese economy, economic concepts, and government regulation of markets. Click here to download an article about the economic history of China. A successful presentation will manage to embed photos, stories, culture and history throughout the topic presentation, clearly illustrating the interconnectedness of each with the economy. Students will work in teams of 2-3 to research their topic of interest. Each group must make a 5-6 minute presentation on their chosen topic.
The project presentation will be Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 6:00 PM in the Wilbur Cross High School cafeteria. The presentation will include a formal presentation from each group along with a Chinese dinner and tea.

Choosing a Research Topic
You may choose any topic that interests you and your group mates, but your group must get their topic approved.
To help you choose a topic, I've listed out several research topic ideas below and provided links to various podcasts and articles. The best projects will be those in which you are genuinely interested in the research topic. If you aren't sure what you're interested in, start by listening to the podcasts and reading articles. Your group's topic can change if you later find something you're more interested in researching.

Research Topic Ideas
You are welcome to choose from this list or to pick your own topic based on your group's interests. These ideas are merely meant to serve as a starting block for your initial research. You may develop them however you like.

Presentation Requirements
- Each presentation must provide background information/brief history of the topic, what's happening in China now regarding the topic, and how the topic is influenced by economics.
- Format: Students will make a PowerPoint presentation. Slides should not be read verbatim, but should outline talking points, display statistics and display photos.
- Participation: Every student must speak during the presentation. Slides should be evenly distributed among students. Students may reference note cards, but should never read directly off the card. Anything that must be read (i.e. statistics and quotes) should be included on a presentation slide so that it doesn't have to be read off a card.
